I-95 South Still Closed Due To Leaning Sign [UPDATED]

Crews say it will take 11-hours to remove the 140-foot tall Potomac Mills Sign after high winds caused it to lean dramatically on Friday. According to ABC 7's Richard Reeve, the sign remains tilted.

Interstate 95 southbound has been shut down since Friday afternoon when authorities realized the sign could fall into travel lanes. Traffic has been diverted onto the Express Lanes that run between the north and south-bound interstate.

The sign, erected over 30 years ago and refreshed with new graphics recently rise along the southbound lanes of I-95 to advertise Potomac Mills Mall.

As of Sunday, the Ikea store located in the shadow of the sign also remains closed.

Crews will not be able to begin the removal until winds drop to 13 MPH due to the crane they need to erect to assist. The forecast continues to call for gusts to 21 MPH through Sunday.

UPDATE: The sign was finally removed the night of March 4th. Watch below!
